The City of Central is preparing the Central City Trails Master Plan (Plan) paid for in part by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO). The Plan will address potential trail development for an intra-city trail network, trail connections to neighboring networks, and outdoor recreational opportunities. At this time, this project is a planning project and does not include trail development on the ground. Logan Simpson has been retained to complete this project.
This Plan will shape how the City will develop a trail network and outdoor recreation opportunities within the City. The Plan will focus on the community's priorities and potential for trails and other outdoor recreational opportunities as well as incorporate a phased approach for implementation, possible future funding streams, and long-term maintenance considerations. The Plan will address community challenges with connectivity, economic diversification, and the outdoor recreation gap while embracing the City's opportunities in outdoor recreation, historic tourism, art, and entertainment.
The process for the Plan is one that fully involves the community. It will build upon and integrate former planning efforts and define measurable and realistic implementation strategies to achieve the community's vision. The Plan will be reflective of public outreach efforts by integrating the needs and input of residents, visitors and business owners collected through public events and a community-wide survey. Furthermore, public outreach will help prioritize actions and direct implementable strategies. The process will be guided by a steering committee and the Plan will ultimately be adopted by City Council.
Public Participation Dates
October 22, 2020 - If you were not able to participate in the virtual public event on October 22, 2020, view the recording here and we invite you to review the Draft Trails Master Plan and comment via the interactive map and questionnaire. All comments are due by November 8.
August 11, 2020 - We hosted a public event for the public to share their ideas for the Central City Trails Master Plan at William C. Russell Park. The public event covered the planning process, existing conditions in Central City, a vision for the future of trails in the City, and more. If you could not attend the public event, review the poster boards from the event from the comfort of your own home.
The City invited representatives from key areas of the community to participate in the planning process as a member of the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee is not a voting body, but a sounding board. The planning process will include additional opportunities including public workshops for those not on the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will meet four (4) times during the duration of the planning process.
