Central City Holiday Lights Contest

Main Street Central City will be hosting a holiday lights contest beginning November 29, 2021 through December 16, 2021.

Entry Period: Monday, November 29, 2021 - Monday, December 13, 2021 at 4 p.m.

Judging Period: Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 5 p.m. through 9 p.m.

MSCC Selection: Wednesday, December 15, 2021

Winners Announced: Thursday, December 16, 2021

  1. Participation is open to all residents and businesses within Central City limits. Businesses must have a business license.
  2. Entry is free, no cost or fees apply.
  3. City Employees/Staff including Council Members, Main Street Central City Commission Members, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate for prize money.
  4. Entry Applications must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021.
  5. Contestants must submit their name, address, phone number, email address, and a photo of the decoration to Lisa Roemhildt at City Hall or by email at lroemhildt@cityofcentral.co. If you are unable to submit a photo, please provide all other contact information. Photos will be used for publicity and to assist judges in the voting process. They are not intended to be voted on. We understand many of the participating homes and businesses may have music or other features that add to the effect of the lighting display. The photos are not indicative of the true decorations and design.  Judges will view the display in person. 
  6. Contest is for exterior decorations only, including decorations in windows that are visible from the exterior. Judging will be done from outside of the premises only.
  7. Judging will be based on “curb appeal” as viewed from the street only. Therefore, only those decorations located on the street side of the property will be judged (corner lots will be judged from both streets). Judges will not enter the property to view back or side yards.
  8. Participants agree to have one or more photos of their decorated exterior posted on the Central City Website and Main Street Central City Facebook page, social media outlets and/or published in printed publications.
  9. All entries may be used by the City of Central and Main Street Central City in printed publications, on any web asset, in a slideshow, or in any other media, and may be copied and displayed, provided that all uses are accompanied by appropriate attribution to the photographer. The City of Central and Main Street Central City holds copyright to the collection of photos that constitute the contest. Main Street Central City shall have the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility. A selection of winning photos may be featured on websites - and in exhibitions throughout the City of Central, and other venues as deemed by Main Street Central City. 
  10. Participants agree there will be no compensation of any kind for said posting or publication.
  11. Judging criteria will include:

[a] Unique design and creative use of lights and decorations

[b] Storyline or theme

[c] Display and placement of decorations, animated objects, etc.

[d] Overall presentation

  1. Judging will be done by the Main Street Central City Commission Members on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 5 p.m. through 9 p.m.
  2. Participants should ensure that all lights, animations and decorations are in place and activated for the judging period on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 from 5 p.m. through 9 p.m.
  3. Eight prizes will be awarded: Two 1st place prizes of $500; two 2nd place prizes of $300; two 3rd place prizes of $200. Three prizes will be for residential and three prizes will be for businesses. Two honorable mention prizes of $50 will be awarded to two residential entries. Business owners who own more than one business are only eligible for one prize.
  4. If you were a first or second place winner in the past two years, we encourage you to participate, but you are not eligible to win first, second, or third place prizes.
  5. Winners will be announced on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Winners do not need to be present to win. Winners will be notified by telephone and/or email.
  6. If you have received over $600 from the Main Street Central City Commission, you will have to fill out a W-9 form for tax purposes.
  7. The first 5 entries will receive recognition on social media.
  8. Rules and dates are subject to change.
  9. Be creative, be festive, have fun!
